With the senior team failing to qualify for the Afrobasket 2015, SA U16's did well by not just qualifying, but holding their own in the tournament as well. The youngsters ended up being drawn in Group B and being pegged up against the likes of African powerhouses Angola and Tunisia. Notable wins in the tourney included a 57-51 triumph over Tunisia and a 73-68 victorry over a strong Moroccan side. Losing to Algeria in the quarterfinals saw the kids' trip cut short as they finished 8th place overall in the competition. It was not all for nothing however, because exposure and travel like this is essential to development of talent at a young age. The eventual champions of the contest were Egypt, who toppled the hosts Mali by one point in the final. South African Clinton Meela earned All Tournament Honours by walking away having made the Honourable Mention team.
