Wayde Van Niekerk's personal best of 43.48 was enough to see him come out on top in an extremely talented final. A strong last 100m stretch helped him fend off American LaShawn Merritt and Olympic Champion Kirani James. With this win, Van Niekerk became the fourth fastest 400m runner in history which speaks volumes for an athlete who is only 23 years old.
